Who Kidnapped My Mom? (2022) is a lifetimes drama surrounding the story of Eva Jones, a loving mother, and their family members who get together to search for the truth after she gets kidnapped. She loses her family at some point and they begin to get worried after she accuses her family of abusing her. Who Kidnapped My Mom? Is filled with abduction as well as the reconstruction of love after loss. The series perfectly encapsulates a family’s deep connection with love and determination. Although she gets rescued, her family is torn apart due to the fact that they are unable to understand the trauma that she went through, because of the loss in the first place.

A year later, Eva, who lives in a small town leaves her house with her two daughters, Sami and Grace. This does not please her mother-in-law, however, because of the trauma which Eva had to face, she is able to understand the situation and gets pushed to the edge. But right when this family begins to resolve its issues, Eva disappears again. Sami, her daughter, is forced to take matters into her own hands which helps her mother’s case as allegations, because the Abduction claims were getting out of hand.

Determined and resourceful, Sami pairs up with Derek (Kelsey Flower) who is a neighbor, and had helped Eva during her tough ‘phase’. Together, they expose the web of lies and betrayal along with the chilling secrets that are hidden underneath the facade of a serene neighborhood. Their investigation yields unexpected returns, forcing them to lose trust in their closest ones, and oh confess that would have hoped the out timing was different when they got to uncover the reality around Evers disappearance.

At the center of this film are the performances. Lucie Guest makes a lasting impression as a mother in the most horrible of situation while Jordan Zavisha owns the role of the daughter who would do anything to save her mother. Tension is well built under Jason Wan Lim direction while Jessica Landry’s script makes sure one gets the needed suspense rounds attached with heart warming moments of family love.

Themes and Highlights:

The narrative would be appreciated by the viewers for the themes of motherly love, love of family and deep rooted suspicion in the family which subsumes everybody’s sense of reason. The dread builds up so gradually, thanks to excellent cinematography, from a suburban street that looks deceivingly peaceful to bone chilling realizations at every turn of Sami’s desperate journey.

The film also manages to achieve a great deal of delusion paranoia asking the audience if Eva’s narrative is true, or if in fact the truth is more sinister. It is this dimension of psychological and emotional depth that ‘Who Kidnapped My Mom?’ manages to transcend the boundaries of a typical thriller.
