“Or Utopia” may be the most disturbing work, a sort of dystopia that goes deep into Center for the Making process Acu America after a traumatic event. This ‘work’ was directed by Yunsoo Kim. As a Japanese film, it is a seminal infusion of psychodrama, mysteries and survival horror, a remarkable first for Kim. The events take place after the traumatic incident referred to as ‘That Thing’ – an indefinable large shape that overshadowed the remains of humanity. Survivors – a dozen strangers – find themselves in an abandoned hotel, and as unions based on trust are unnecessary, people are cohabiting the space in a loose arrangement of usage.

Human survivors are headlined by Kisetsu Fujiwara (as Hirayama) the owner of the enigmatical hotel, Shibukawa Kiyohiko and Mitsuo Yoshioka who also portray some of the more significant survivors in the film, each character progressing as the narrative reaches conclusion. The rest of the survivors struggle around modern chaos breakdown and the order all people had to hide in. Visual depiction of ’voyeur’-like focus to the unraveling of human facades during the quest to ‘solve the problem’ of Hirayama.

The plot is definitely fraught with dramatic tension and suspense, as the audience is shown flashbacks and different viewpoints revealing each character’s backstory. How did their life change after ‘That Thing’? Why is there a depicted hesitance in telling their story? Meanwhile, as the group tries to put an end to the enigma surrounding Hirayama’s demise, the picture’s deeper meaning emerges, such as the Stress concerning, about guilt, humanity, and about humanity’s search for a perfect society where there is no sign of hope.

The scene is set to pulsating cues which only increases the effective eerie tone of the film – ambient score, barren scenery, the pensive form of a beast that the trailer paints pictures of. “Or Utopia” stands out as a movie which easily provides an effective combination of horror and compelling character driven plot, and promises to create an impact in the viewer’s psyche even after the end credits.
