Hevi Reissu (Heavy Trip) consists of comedic scenes out of a dream, set in a Finnish village. Its a quirky unorthodox movie that follows metalheads who are social outcasts over the course of their journey as they try to escape their boring lives and pursue their music goals. Directed by Juuso Laatio and Jukka Vidgren this movie glorifies the path of friendship made by the struggles of passion through sheer craziness of reality.
Cast Highlights:
- Johannes Holopainen delivers a charmingly awkward performance as Turo, a man grappling with his insecurities and longing to prove himself as more than just a quiet villager.
- Antti Heikkinen as Jynkky, the hyperactive drummer whose eccentricities often lead the group into chaotic situations.
- Ville Tiihonen portrays Pasi, a die-hard metal enthusiast with an encyclopedic knowledge of metal culture.
- Max Ovaska rounds out the band as Lotvonen, the kind-hearted guitarist who balances his time between shredding riffs and helping with the family reindeer business.
Extended Synopsis:
Turo is living in the Finnish village rather unhappily, however, this doesn’t stop him from screaming when performing with his death metal band “Impaled Rektum”, which has never performed live. He works during his daily life managing the town bullies as well as his obsession with Miia, an attractive blonde, in the process. All’s well until a Norwegian promoter who visits and hears their songs, sparks one of the biggest events in their lives by inviting them to perform in his festival called northern dammation.
However, remember that all of this is easier said than done, turning words into actions while having a cringeworthy band name and no recording is quite the task indeed. The journey itself is exhilarating with all of the unusual and unexpected twists and turns such as the band’s van getting stolen, booms of police sirens around the band, unexpected fights with other bands during the road trip, and most importantly is whether the band is ‘metal’ enough to be attending the event.
The production Hevi Reissu will always have a special place in my heart for their depth and purity, as behind their humor lies an amazing concept of friendship and being an outcast in this society, it’s a great tribute for all those lost souls and outliers who had the courage to become who they are.
The film’s score is one of the most interesting parts of the movie – a heavy metal genre that not only has a pounding voice in a growl sing style, but is also marked by fast-paced guitar solos. Hevi Reissu is a joy for the headbanger as well as a compelling tale for all dreamers thanks to its picturesque Nordic landscapes and a script filled with a number of side splitting scenes.
