All the Lost Ones transports its audience through a bitter-sweet ambience of reality that clashes with the very guilt and the mystery that involves life itself. Film Directed by Mackenzie Donaldson, this 2024, sci-fi thriller treats the audience to a glimpse of the future which is far from bright where ‘climate justice’ became a fanciful goal instead of a reality. The aim was underscored with civil wars that ravaged what remained of society. The central focus of this conflict, however, is a little family: Nia, a strong-headed big sister, her younger sister Penny and Nia’s rather secretive boyfriend, Ethan.

The family finds solace at an isolated cabin but with hidden fears of militias surrounding them. Their fears turn into reality when Conrad, a gallant militia hero, comes knocking along with his band. Their loyalties face an unprecedented test and the choices left to make were brutal and irreconcilable. The strain only gets worse when the line separating savior and villain starts fading away and consumed by darkness in a way the characters had never imagined.

Cast Highlights:

  • Jasmine Mathews delivers a gripping performance as Nia, capturing both her vulnerability and resilience as she navigates the moral dilemmas of survival.
  • Vinessa Antoine shines as Penny, whose innocence contrasts sharply with the brutal reality surrounding her.
  • Douglas Smith as Ethan adds layers of complexity, as his past intertwines with the militia’s sinister agenda.
  • Devon Sawa portrays Conrad with a magnetic mix of menace and charisma, a villain who lingers in the mind long after the credits roll.
  • Supporting roles by Steven Ogg, Sheila McCarthy, and Lochlyn Munro add richness and depth to this harrowing tale.

The cinematography portrays the emptiness of the world as absolutely breathtaking, featuring expansive shots of deathly lands and cold close shots which heighten the unimaginable effort these characters are putting forth. Donaldson’s direction makes it such that every scene carries with it a suspenseful feeling, this accompanied by a melancholic soundtrack of a promising young composer enhances the film.
